Maranello Sales Through The Ages

08 September 2022

Maranello Sales are proud to have a unique, rich history, dating back to the 1950s with direct traces to Britain’s first world motor racing champion, Mike Hawthorn. Having successfully won the 1958 Formula One world title behind the wheel of a Ferrari, Hawthorn struck a deal with Enzo Ferrari to sell Ferrari road cars in the UK.

Initially selling the Ferrari 250 GT, two of which he showcased at the 1958 London Motorshow, Hawthorn managed to sell the first relatively quickly, but the second not as well. This was eventually purchased by Colonel Ronnie Hoare, proprietor of Bournemouth-based Ford dealership F English Ltd, and a leading name within the world of UK racing.

Hoare went on to secure a deal with Enzo Ferrari to operate as the UK’s official Ferrari distributor, and so Maranello Concessionaires was born. Initially incorporating this business within his existing Ford dealership, Hoare went on to lease the Tower Garage site from Shell – who had used the site as a petrol station and service centre – in 1967.

Tower Garage was designed in 1935 by Rix and Rix of Burnham in a distinctive art deco style. It was originally used as a Vauxhall/Bedford Sales & Service operation for The Egham Motor Co., before being extended and eventually purchased by Shell in the early 1960s.

By 1991 when Inchcape took over, the business had divided into three separate elements – sales, service and parts – all operating around Egham and Thorpe.

Maranello Classic Parts now operate from a 100,000 sq.ft. purpose built parts in Thorpe, where it houses 285,000+ parts and an inventory which includes in excess of 40,000 lines. In a third building on the same retail area, Maranello Service centre is home to a state-of-the-art workshop and expert, Ferrari-trained technicians, where your Ferrari will be in safe hands.

We look forward to welcoming you.
